Scope and Content Note: Series D pertains to Friedman's college years at Yale University and the Jewish Institute of Religion, as well as his rabbinical career. The series contains notes from Friedman's studies at the Jewish Institute of Religion. It contains sermons and speeches given by Friedman during his time at Temple Emanuel in Denver as well as at Congregation Emanu-El B'ne Jeshurun in Milwaukee. Several photos and news clippings highlight Rabbi Friedman's work with these congregations.

Of note in this subseries are many files concerning the merger of the Jewish Institute of Religion with the Hebrew Union College as well as files concerning the move of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations from Cincinnati to New York.
